Where do we want this play set?

Charles and I were thinking that we could set it in turn of the century, beginning of industrialization, Victorian era England. Kind of late 18th century, very aristocratic, everything beautiful. Anyone have any thoughts?

Our thinking is that a major theme of the play is male supremacy. This gives justification for Viola disguising herself as a man. In modern times, there is no need for such foolishness. In Victorian times, it would make more sense for a woman to feel she had to dress as a man in order to be respected. Also, it's more humorous to have a woman dress as a man in Victorian clothes as opposed to modern clothes. In modern times, dress is very similar for men and women, especially for teenagers, as Viola pretends to be (a teenage boy).

I know Xander and Maggie have also discussed a modern setting of the play. Do you want to share your thoughts on why that would be better?
